For mostpeople who perform unselfish acts, they receive little or no recognition for their actions.... Through their efforts they refuse to settle for mediocrity. They strive for excellence and serve as role models so that other people can aspire to higher standards of behavior. These people live and work among us and maybe a person reading this narrative is one of these unsung heroes."

Profiles of Excellence

In every community in the United States and throughout the World there are people who go about their daily lives and have a positive influence on their families, friends, and communities. These are people who devote time, energy, and money providing valued services, such as: feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and elderly, providing shelter for the homeless, educating the illiterate, and caring for unwanted pets. These people include single mothers who work three jobs to support their children, and still find time to help them with their homework and to provide guidance so that they don’t get involved with the “wrong crowd.” People who make a difference also include husbands and fathers who get up at 6:00 a.m. every morning, commute one-hour to work, work an eight to ten hour shift, and then commute home and spend time helping their children with their homework. Many of these people perform unselfish acts week after week without uttering one complaint.

For most people who perform unselfish acts, they receive little or no recognition for their actions. They rarely, if ever, hear a “thank you” for their efforts; yet, they continue to contribute to worthwhile causes. Through their efforts they refuse to settle for mediocrity. They strive for excellence and serve as role models so that other people can aspire to higher standards of behavior. These people live and work among us and maybe a person reading this narrative is one of these unsung heroes.

For all of the people that go about their daily lives trying to make their homes and communities better places to live and work, Profiles of Excellence is for you! Each month Profiles of Excellence will share inspirational stories about people who are truly making a difference in their communities and receive little or no recognition for their efforts. These people are our true heroes and their stories need to be told.

Perhaps you know someone whose story should be told? If you do, send us an e-mail about the accomplishments of that special person and the obstacles they encountered(excellence@rockfordkingsley.org).  Sharing that person's story wil be a gift to that person as well as to the readers of Profiles of Excellence.    We need to recognize the achievements of the unsung heroes of our communities.

We are honored to present Rockford Kingsley's first Profile of Excellence: Cupcakes for Courage.
