How Happy are You?

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands!

Are you clapping yet?

In my experience in personal coaching, and in life in general, I have noticed a couple of things about people. For the most part, they are so fortunate! They have more clothes than they can ever wear, so much food in their kitchen, it’s hard to decide what to have to eat, they have money in their pockets and some in the bank and oodles of people that care about them. If this is the case for most of the people I (and may I assume you, too) work with , why is it that the other common denominator is that these very same people don’t appear to be very happy, content or satisfied?

Are you happy, content, satisfied?
Ask yourself these questions:
  • Do I have something to look forward to everyday?
  • Do I smile, laugh, have fun everyday?
  • Am I surrounded by people who love and care about me?
  • Do I earn enough money to provide me with the things I need and some things I want?
  • Do I have things in my home that I love, bring me joy and/or are useful?
  • Do I have the ability/resources to take care of myself physically, spiritually, emotionally?
  • Do I carve out ‘me’ time?’
  • Do I let positive, affirming thought dominate my mind?
  • Do I limit my exposure to negative people, news and events?
Often we are waiting for happiness to hit us over the head, we are waiting for love to sweep us off our feet and we are waiting for fun to pull us out of bed in the morning. Taking charge of our life, driving our own bus, empowering ourselves is about the only way I know to make ourselves happier, more content, more satisfied. If we keep waiting for a better time, place, circumstance, it is sure to be a long wait.
Go out and grab life by the horns. YOU deserve to be happy. YOU deserve to be fulfilled. YOU deserve to be content. If you want more of ANYTHING, go out and start making it! Why not start now?
Try these easy to implement ideas:
  • Before you step out of bed, think of three things you have to look forward to that day (yes, even if it’s work-that means you have a job and that’ good!)
  • Plan to do something just for you that will energize your body, mind or spirit. (even 10 minutes is better than nothing)
  • Limit contact with the energy drainers who bring you down. (Even if you have to eat lunch alone!)
  • Plan something fun/ new/ interesting with a friend or loved one.
  • Before bed, review things that you are grateful for and plan for a successful day tomorrow!
It’s time to stop waiting for your boss, your spouse, your parents, your….(fill in the blank with other people), to make you happy. It’s time to stop waiting for school to finish, the kids to grow up, retirement…(fill in the blank with other ‘times’). The only thing you need to do is make a decision you will be happy-with or without the perfect circumstances.
Now clap!
