Lloyd H. Bachrach

A Chicago area native, Lloyd attended Thornridge High School and Northern Illinois University.  He enjoys downhill mono-skiing and is an avid SCUBA diver.  Lloyd is married to Julia Sniderman, and they have two daughters Marissa, and Paili Rose.

In Lloyd’s continuing efforts to provide encouragement to children, he serves as a volunteer peer counselor for Families and Amputees in Motion (FAIM).   In 2005 he created Premier Showcase Inc. an outlet for performers who focus on youth audiences to market themselves at one day events or on the national showcase directory.

Lloyd’s accomplishments extend well beyond the athletic arena.  He worked for several years at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, reaching the level of Currency Speculator.  Lloyd also has pursued a successful modeling career, with clients such as LandsEnd, J.C. Penny’s and Sears.  Lloyd currently devotes most of his time to Yes, You Can! Inc., a disability awareness and motivational program.  Lloyd has delivered the Yes, You Can!  inspirational message to wide variety of audiences throughout the United States; including children in numerous school districts. In addition, he has had the honor of giving presentations to the Amputee Coalition of America, the American Foundry Society, United Parcel Service, Marquette University, The University of Chicago, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and Shriner’s Hospital for Children.  In recognition for his work to inspire and encourage children from Chicago, in 1996 he received the “Inspiration to Youth Award” from the B’nai B’rith Sports Lodge.  In 1998 Lloyd had the honor of being designated “Chicagoan” of the Year by the Chicago Park District.

After the Paralympics, Lloyd’s passion for gymnastics led him back to the gym, this time as an instructor for the Chicago Park District and asDirector of Gymnastics for the District’s Therapeutic Recreation Department.  Lloyd has also coached girls gymnastics at the high school level, and became certified as a national men’s gymnastics judge.

At an early age, Lloyd developed his physical skills via his interest in swimming, baseball, and bowling.  During his teens, Lloyd became accomplished in the sport of gymnastics while competing against “able bodied” gymnasts.  As a gymnast, he competed at the high school and intercollegiate levels winning a staggering 25 gold, 27 silver, and 20 bronze medals in various competitions; including the Prairie State Games, Chicago Park District Gymnastics on the Beach, and the Midwest Open.  After college, Lloyd Bachrach became a member of the 1996 United States Paralympic Team and competed in sit volleyball in the Atlanta games.

Lloyd Bachrach was born in 1962 with a congenital bone deficiency which left his legs unusually short and made mobility difficult. In spite of his substantial physical challenge, Lloyd has driven himself to excel both athletically and professionally, and through his inspirational efforts he has attained national recognition in both areas.
